I guess we could call this a soft roll-out of season two for JimSumnerSports.
Sorry, no ice cream, no balloons.
To borrow a phrase from Elton John, I’m still standing. It was a good first year. Not world domination but a gratifying response and I hope to keep the momentum going.
With the exception of just learning to navigate the Substack universe, the biggest problem I had last year was trying to figure out what should be free content and what should be behind a paywall.
On one hand I want as many people as possible to read what i write and not charging anything would check that box.
On the other hand, baby needs new shoes. Well, not really. But I do think my writing has value and $40 per year or $8 per month seems like a modest outlay for anyone who agrees with that premise.
So, I will be keeping some free content but will migrate some of that to paying customers. Not everything. Still, figuring it out. But expect a little less free, a little more paid.
But a basic subscription is still free and will be informative. Promise.
To sweeten the pot, beginning in September and going into April, I will be including a weekly history column for paid subscribers. “This Day in Duke Sports History,” or some such unless I can come up with something better for a title.
Don’t expect a 2,000-word deep-dive. But do expect something more detailed than the headlines. People seem to like it when I take a trip down memory lane, so I’ll try to scratch that itch.
Please re-up if you’re a subscriber, consider getting out that credit card if you’re a free subscriber and tell your friends, neighbors, strangers at the grocery store, anyone who might be interested in Duke sports about JimSumnerSports.
It will be worth their while.
I’m definitely going to re-up. Great content. And it’s football season!
Jim - for the record, DBR or SBN effed up.
I'm re-upping.
Larry "Ozzie" Osborne
Please note that I spell Ozzie and Osborne correctly. They "other one" doesn't!
