Hey, I learned something today.
I spent a lot of time looking at social media/sports sites and ran into lots of “Dabo’s Worst Loss” and “Clemson hits rock bottom” kind of articles.
But somehow I got signed up with a dictionary site. You’re no doubt familiar with the word “disgruntled.” But there’s actually a word “gruntled.” It means “pleased, satisfied, contented.”
My best guess is that lots of Duke football fans are gruntled right now.
Last week Mike Elko told the media that most openers are lost rather than won. Clemson had 12 more first downs than Duke, 14 more rushing yards, 34 more passing yards, 40 fewer penalty yards. The Tigers kept the ball for six more minutes than Duke.
And lost. By three touchdowns.
If you’re a Clemson fan who stumbled onto this blog by mistake looking for an acknowledgement that the better team lost, well you’re out of luck. Even the most casual Duke football fan can bring up memories of games in which Duke won most or all of the statistical categories except the only one that actually matters.
